Kim, you amazing creature--baker extraordinaire, photo genius and dieting diva! As a dieting dropout, you have my admiration! Your Princess is lovely! No doubt your revised taste for healthier foods is serving you extraordinarily well--I found it surprisingly LIGHT!! I will be using your tip about the cake round inside the springform pan for the rest of my baking days--so glad you showed us that!

I hope you are well. Food poisoning makes you feel like everything around you is melting away...truly terrible. You worked really hard on your cake! I agree, this cake was exceedingly rich and too difficult to eat too much of it. Good and bad. Yes, the texture was much better once left out for a couple of hours, and no, I couldn't get a clean cut with a hot knife, either. Parallel universes! Great idea placing the cake round under the cake, you clever cookie.

hope you feeling better already, I absolutely love your opening picture.

Well it looks gorgeous. I found the buttercream too much too and would prefer a mousse type topping. Soaking the sultanas in vodka - great idea!

Sorry for your food poisoning, and right in the middle of making the buttercream! Sorry it wasn't to your liking, but your photos are lovely.

It was just a 24 hour thing, thank goodness. Thanks for leaving your comment. I always like hearing from you!

Yikes! 1/20 th slice?!? "War weary" is a most excellent description. Know it well. That said, your cake looks gorgeous. Great idea using a cardboard cake round.

Vicki, isn't it amazing the point count. Just incredible really. For once I didn't want to care, but I had my piece--yes I did!

And such great idea to use a squeezy bottle! I should have used that..took forever to brush syrup... Thanks!

Kimberlie 2017-01-08

You'll never go back to the brush. The squeeze bottle is where it's at Faithy.

Love your pics. And your honesty. Hope you're feeling better and I bet the martini would do the trick!

Your cake and photos look beautiful! I'm sorry to hear that you didn't like the cake. I was worried about too much butter too but in the end I like the buttercream. I didn't have problems cutting my cake when cold though.
