Oh, oh, oh, oh. First they're cookies. Second, they're not at all sweet. Third, they're extreme chocolate. Fourth, they're just the right size. Fifth, the texture is light, crisp and fresh. Have I missed anything? I'm all in on this cookie. Just fantastic.

MAKE THE DOUGH

  • This was rather uneventful. The end result came out great.

ROLL THE DOUGH INTO BALLS

  • Again, this went without a hitch. I just weighed a bunch of dough and rolled them.

  • The next step was curious. I looked forward to the outcome.

  • At this point the dough got too warm. I had trouble rolling them and pressing the sugar into them. In the oven, they melted, proving why it's important to keep the dough sufficiently cold.

Melted and slightly burned. Oops.

  • WHAT ARE THE ALPHA BAKERS? : Here's how it works: once a week, for the next two years, 25 Alpha Bakers commit to baking their way through every recipe of Rose Levy Beranbaum's newly published The Baking Bible. Each week we post our experiences on our blog sites: our successes, our failures, our like and dislikes . The recipes are scheduled in advance so that everyone is baking the same recipe at the same time. No recipes can be shared in my Alpha Bakers Baking Bible posts due to publishing restrictions enforced by the publisher, but if you love to bake, this is a must-have book. You can see other tutorials for the same recipe at the following link The Baking Bible Alpha Bakers at http://rosesalphabakers.blogspot.ca/.

Your photos are so beautiful and your cookies too! I'm sorry to see some melted. Temperature certainly is important! I love these cookies too! They are as good as they look.

Faithy, I agree. They are such good cookies. A total winner, at least in my world.

How funny some melted like that. It's like they threw a tantrum. It's good to know though for when I try them. It's so handy when people post earlier. The cookies look great.

Hi CAtherine, I think they melted because the cookie dough became too warm as I worked with it. It got so warm, the cookies were sticking to the bottom of the glass, but I didn't stop to think it through. I probably should have set them in the fridge for a few minutes before I continued.

I'm glad you posted early! I was just wondering if I should re-do them because mine came out flat when I made them but I guess that's the way they're supposed to be. I loved the flavor! I like how yours look with the sugar crystals. Have fun camping!
